Help me give my students relatable, vibrant, and varied texts that will allow them to see themselves in stories and will inspire them to develop their voices as writers.
My third grade students are eager to share their voices and their unique points of view. We write together every day, and make goals for ourselves as writers. My students are so excited to share their writing, that sometimes they bring it to me even after they move up to the next grade!
My bright and enthusiastic students come from many backgrounds, and they enjoy learning about each other and telling their stories.
As much as my students love to share, they don't always see themselves as writers at first. It is so exciting to see students inspired to develop and strengthen their creative voices as the year goes on.
My Project
Great writing inspires great writers. With these inspirational mentor texts, students will be able to learn about what great writers do, and to use these skills in their own work. Mentor texts are a fun and engaging way to introduce new skills. Chapter books that reflect the lives of children with diverse points of view help inspire children to share their stories as well.
In our daily workshop, we focus on one or two things in our writing to develop.
These books will be used to create a shared experience, a shared reference point for discussing our writing. Students will then practice adding these techniques to their own writing, experimenting with different approaches, and conferring with other writers in the class for feedback. This way they will be able to see themselves as writers and to build confidence and skill.
