I teach in a rural, Michigan school district and my class sizes are 23 and 27. All of my students at both the high school and middle school are Title I students and need differentiated instruction to meet their needs. My elementary students are the same way and need numerous ways to grow into wonderful 21st-century learners.
Creative, enthusiastic, outside the box, would describe my students.
They love to learn and need creative 21st-century ways to become explorers in the classroom and in the world around them.
My Project
These books will continue and enrich the natural interest in books. Each book in my current library that remains is treated as a gift and the students always ask to read on a variety of topics that are important to them. From space shuttles to Diary of a Wimpy Kid to the Civil Rights movement, my students are curious about the world around them.
These new books will allow them to explore diversity as well as the history that they may not be familiar with.
These new books will allow my students to grow as readers and develop an interest in diversity, history, as well as STEM and STEAM careers.
My students have already shown a tremendous love of reading and we use every opportunity to read independently. These books also allow for my students who do not have an opportunity to read in class, a chance to read when they get home. For some students, the books offer a chance to teach their parents the benefits and joy of reading.
