My school is located in a small rural town near the coast of South Carolina. My school is a Title I elementary school serving over 800 students with students receiving free lunch and breakfast. Even though most of our students do not have much, they are kind and generous with what they do have. Our small town was hit hard by historic flooding in 2015 and many still have not recovered fully. Many of the homes that have been repaired still faced flooding impacts during Hurricane Matthew and most recently Hurricane Florence due to poor drainage issues that are still unsolved.
Our school may be the largest elementary in our district, but we still have a family feeling and strive each day to make someone else's day just a little better.
My Project
As a teacher, it makes you smile when students finally find a love for reading. Several of my boys have discovered this love this school year and are asking for additional books in the Ricky Ricotta and Dog Man series.
When they ask for a book, you find a way to get them that book if at all possible.
That's where this request comes in. I am requesting additional titles in these series as well as an audio version of the Wonder series. I have read this series with my fifth graders for the past three years and plan to continue to read it with my future fifth grade classes as well. Having the audio version will make it easier for my students to catch up when they have been absent and missed us reading it together.
