My Students

Students at our inner-city, Title I school have limited access to books and educational experiences outside of the classroom. Our students come from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds and many of our students are English Language Learners.

To combat the literacy issues our students face, we sponsor a Book Club at our school.

In our Book Club, we read books of historical fiction that are tied to our curriculum and then participate in an enrichment activity to increase our students' understanding of the novel

My Project

Our Will C. Wood Book Club is made up of 40 voracious readers! Every year we select novels (tied to our seventh and eighth grade curriculum) and embark on field trips or activities to expand the adventure of the novels. Our trips have included sailing on a two masted schooner (The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle), the Sacramento Railroad Museum and train ride, (Dragon's Gate) and even a visit to a tea garden and lunch at Beni-hana restaurant ( The Sign of the Chrysanthemum.)

However, over the years, many of our books have been damaged or lost on their way back to our book room.

Please help us replace these copies so that each member of the club can have their own book to read.
