This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My project was created to further expand my classroom library. As I have been an advisor for several years, I have picked up on what types of books my students like and what my library is missing!

As we start a new semester, I want to refresh my library to reinvigorate my students excitement to read!

There is a big love of graphic novels, so I looked for new ones that I didn't have yet. They also really loved series and getting to spend more than one book with their favorite characters. Finally, I've added some novels written in verse, as I have seen my students really love this style of writing.

Our schedule allows for 30 minutes of independent reading time each day, and I am excited to continue this practice with my 8th graders. They have one more semester until high school and I want to make sure they become the strongest readers possible! Creating a strong reading culture is so important to me, as I want my students to find joy in reading. Helping students find the joy in reading means I need to have plenty of books that they are excited about and want to read!

Since many of my students come in with reading levels below their grade level, it is important to have books of all levels and topics so that every student has something to read.
