Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 7th and 8th graders at a dual-language school in a large city in Massachusetts. My students have been taught in both English and Spanish since kindergarten. They are very thoughtful and constantly diving into learning while taking on leadership in the classroom.
They love to explore new ideas, cultures, and concepts each and every day.
I am lucky to explore with them through my humanities course. They are a wonderful group of students that see their individual success wrapped up in the success of others in the class. They work together and are extremely compassionate.
My Project
My students love to read books that spark their interests. In order to keep my students engaged in reading, I am in need of new and interesting books. Some of these requested books include "Children of Blood and Bone" by Tomi Adeyemi and "With the Fire of High" by Elizabeth Acevedo.
Students will use these new books in order to engage in high-level shared reading and discussion.
They will have these books as new choices for literature circles. I am committed to helping my students continue to enjoy picking out a new book of their interest. The more options I can provide will allow students interest to grow and their love for reading to prosper. In order to do this, they need a vast selection of interesting books. Thank you for helping enrich the options available at their finger tips.
