My Students

My middle schoolers are a unique group who can absorb a great amount of knowledge, but they are often challenged by previous development of reading skills and outside situations.

My students are exciting, diverse, and happy children who enjoy learning innovative ways to read and to listen.

Group work and teamwork are a great way for them to learn. They hold each other accountable for the group work. Inner city students can be challenging, but these students are such a delight!

My Project

My class is a literacy intervention, so anything we read is of vital importance to increasing student achievement and motivation. These are not new books to my curriculum, but they will replace the books we have beaten up, lost, or damaged over the years of use they have given us.

Esperanza Rising is a great book that reflects who many of my students are culturally.

I have 2 copies left! Night of the Twisters is a book that students love, but now most of the ones I have are falling apart. Things Not Seen is a great one I use with my seventh graders, but those are missing pages and coming unglued.

My students find motivation to read when they like the book. They feel that they are important when they get new books, and they will cherish them.
