I am the school librarian to many enthusiastic learners! My students visit the library once a week with their classes and, during their 40 minute library sessions, they participate in learning activities and book selection.
Our school library is an exciting, active place where students read, research, and create.
During our weekly library instructional sessions students learn and practice many valuable information literacy skills to help them grow as independent readers and information seekers.
Learning activities include lessons about different books and authors, research projects, and library scavenger hunts. We also love to connect with people around the world through Skype chats with authors and classrooms in different states and countries.
My Project
I am in the process of updating the older, very large bookcases in my small school library to newer, mobile shelving. Our current bookcases are large and bulky, and overwhelm the small space we are in. This makes it difficult for the students to easily maneuver around as they search for books to read.
The new bookcases I hope to get will create a more open, inviting library space for our students and staff to use.
The mobile units I hope to get will allow more flexibility in the arrangement of the library, providing more opportunity to create a more welcoming space for the students and staff when they use the library.
Due to the generosity of DonorsChoose donors, we recently had the first phase of our project fully funded, allowing us to replace one of the large, older units with four smaller units. The bookcases that I am requesting through this new project will allow us to replace the second of the three older units.
