My students love to read! Our high school was founded in 2002. The Old Southern collection was transferred to our new Library Media Center before adding new books. The bulk of the collection contained outdated books and materials that are no longer appropriate, nor complement the interests of our present school community. 85% of my nonfiction collection is outdated, 80% of the fiction collection was also outdated, from the early 2000s. I had to provide students with digital copies because of the current books on the shelf. I have students that were trilogy readers. It broke my heart when my students ran out of books in the collection.
Then the COVID-19 Pandemic and cancer hit me at the same time.
I have been trying to stay safe from COVID-19 and fighting for my life with treatments. I am looking forward to completing my weeding process. I am creating this project in hopes to provide our Library Media Center with new materials that my students enjoy checking out and staff members can utilize.
My Project
Our Library Media Center is loaded with outdated nonfiction and fiction books that my students can't utilize. My heart sinks when students come in and look for a book that is not on the shelves. We are revitalizing the center and are in need of reading materials that our students can enjoy!
We are a technology school and are in desperate need to have books that reflect modern technologies.
Over 85% of my nonfiction collection is outdated from the early 2000s and 1900s. Technology and nonfiction facts have changed since then!
