Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

My Students
I will have the pleasure of teaching a diverse group of children living in a high poverty city where many of the families are economically disadvantaged. Our students work extremely hard despite the challenges they face. Further, they fight hard to disprove the many stereotypes that follow them growing up within the inner city. They don't complain about what they don't have. Instead, they are resourceful and do the most with what they do have.
My students and I are not looking to get a handout or to be looked down on for what they don't have.
Instead, I want them to have an opportunity to dream big and see those dreams become a reality. My kids are incredibly talented children who I am honored and privileged to educate. They have a love and passion for learning that I want and need to foster.
My Project
I was recently told my grade level would be changing, so I am looking to bring the same level of joy and excitement to second grade as I did to third. I am a huge advocate of school being a place for students to feel safe but also learn and play which is why I love providing my students with the opportunity to play without realizing they are learning during center time.
Changing grade levels is tough, but I will do whatever I can to make sure my students have an enjoyable year while learning.
The materials I have added to my project will allow students to practice and reinforce the skills we learn during whole group instruction, but they will be able to have fun while doing it. The materials are age appropriate and students can check their work, which also teaches them to be responsible.
