This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
83% of our students are at or below the poverty level. My students are in an urban setting. I have students from single-parent homes, and some even live with relatives. They are students that get temporarily placed in foster homes, as well as those considered homeless. In many ways, my students have had to mature well before most adolescents. Some take care of siblings after school because their parents need the help and can not afford any other options.
Our Academy is in the top 10 poorest zip codes in the United States, giving us an extremely low tax base.
My Project
New Badminton sets would be a big morale booster and would add to the variety of sports our students participate in. New Badminton sets would allow our students to use some of the same equipment that schools with ten times the budget use in their Physical Education classes. We have fundraised some money to get badminton rackets but currently, have no nets or standards to connect them to.
The Zume Badminton Sets are perfect for motivating my students to try something new and participate in different sports.
They can be used both indoors and outdoors, which is great because we are inside from late October to early April.
