My students need class sets of Charlotte's Web and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

My students love movies! Some don't realize that many of the movies they love are derived from stories written in books. Now that my students have been introduced to this notion, they are exploding with excitement to read chapter books and paint a vivid picture of the events for themselves!
My students are creative and lively.
My students come from low income neighborhoods. My classroom is possibly the only stable environment they know and they love it here. My students love to read and write. Their attention is completely wrapped up in the books we read. Reading becomes and escape for them and a platform for them to imagine being anything they want to be. My students have learned to appreciate reading different types of text, so imagine their surprise when they found out that some of their favorite movies were actually based on books.
Chapter books will build on a love for reading. My students will gain an even greater appreciation for the written word and engage in practicing reading skills such as, predicting, summarizing, describing, and much more. With chapter books students will be pressed to pause on something exciting and visualize the story. The resources will nurture their imagination and allow the story to unfold in pictures created in your kids’ imagination instead of an illustrator’s vision. These books will also be used to compare and contrast the book and the movie on the book. Students will also be able to practice language skills by reading descriptive words to replace pictures. Student will also have book discussions to practice turn-taking, encourage them to use language to analyze, make predictions and solve problems, and provide them with opportunities to try out new vocabulary words.
Movies have their place, and there is nothing like a good movie.
However, these movies are someone else's point of view. These donations will help my students plant the seed of creativity and enrich their vocabulary. Reading is the ticket to any movie they can imagine. These resources will help my student see that there is no substitute for the real thing, reading.
