My students need a class set (20) of stability ball-chairs to use instead of chairs.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students do not come from much. However, they come from loving families who try their best to make the most out of everything they can. Students walk into my classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day.
They are smart, talented, and have the drive and desire of Michael Jordan.
My students strive to be the best that they can be, be it tennis, chemistry, soccer, or physics. My students work hard at what they want, and they want it all! I believe that when you think of my kids, you think of greatness and you think of excellence in the face of disparity.
Excluding the bed, where do most people spend the majority of their lives from birth to old? Sitting down in (what most times seems to be) a hard and uncomfortable chair! With this project, I aim to give my students what no one else at my school has...flexible seating! I saw a need because more and more of my students had problems with attention and focus in their traditional classroom desks.
Flexible seating classrooms are all the new RAGE!
The only issue is that it is expensive! I have only been teaching for 3 years and I still find it hard to buy my students what they need and what I want them to have. Some benefits of flexible seating include burning more calories, using up excess energy, improving metabolism, increased motivation and engagement, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain, and improving core strength and overall posture. It's no surprise that physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior.
The "chairs" that I have chosen offer all of the aforementioned! The chair itself is made up of a Yoga-style ball that is attached to wheels and has a lower-back support. They allow the student the flexibility to move around on the chair versus being confined to a hard desk that is completely confined. With your help, I feel that this project will benefit my students' learning and make science feel more comfortable for my students!
