Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my students are English Learners who always try their best, no matter what obstacles they are facing. My students come from low-income families that may not be able to provide supplies, and unfortunately, my school does not get very much funding for things like basic supplies and books.
Our school serves a diverse population, with many students learning English as their second language.
In order for my teaching to be effective, it's important to have the supplies and resources to support their needs. My students are curious, bright, energetic and deserve to have a quality education.
My Project
My students love to learn through reading and exploring books on their own. They can't wait to tell me interesting facts that they've discovered during their own reading time, there's never a day I don't hear "Ms.A, did you know??"
My students are curious and have learned how to read non-fiction books, but texts at a first grade level are hard to find.
This project will help fill my non-fiction library sections with books that my students can actually access and easily understand, instead of heavily relying on picture clues. Many of the books I am wanting are about animals, science, and biographies.
Glue sticks, markers, and pencils will also help my students make posters, art projects, and complete other activities related to these non-fiction texts. My students love reading and I want to keep feeding their curious minds with great books!
