Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
There are many great things going on at our school. Our school is changing distinguished practice by becoming a STEAM school.
As a teacher of students who come from situations that are beyond their control, I push them to persevere and be the best that they can be despite circumstances.
Some of my students are either homeless or live in motels or crowded rooms. Some of my students are responsible for caring for their younger siblings as their parents work long hours. Regardless of their situations, they come to school, try their hardest, and learn.
Living close to a popular tourist attraction, many of my students and their families are unable to go because they can’t afford it.
Our school is a Title I school where the majority of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
My Project
I want to create a more interactive way for students to learn about the nervous system through the use of electrodes. This company, Backyard Brains, have created a Human-Human-Interface Kit that is a way to teach neuroscience safely. With this kit, a student will be connected to another student to control their nerves and make their hand react. When I was able to try this at a science conference, I thought that this will be a fun and exciting way to teach the nervous system. I, as an adult, was having a lot of fun with it.
Science is more exciting when it is very interactive and hands-on.
My ultimate goal is to incorporate a lot of STEM or STEAM and hands-on activities to capture students' interests. The human-human-interface will do exactly that.
