Many of our students are part of a low-income household where they are faced with multiple challenges. Some of them are already working on their family's farm or business. Therefore, we like to provide as many opportunities that we can while keeping the atmosphere of PE fun and positive.
Our students like to be outdoors and hunt or ride four wheelers, while we do have our share who enjoy their video games.
A large proportion of our students are also involved in athletics and participate in multiple sports.
We teach sixth, seventh and eighth grade physical education and see every single student in the middle school. Our class sizes range from 30-40 while also serving our students with special needs. Our small school district serves roughly 850 students from pre-k to 12th grade. We are located in a rural farming community in the state of Illinois.
My Project
Your donation to this project will allow us to have a fourth standard that has working wheels. We share our gym with multiple extracurricular teams, so we have to clean up the gym daily. With working wheels on our fourth standard, this process will be much easier.
With a new standard, we will be able to easily set up more courts during a class period.
More courts mean we could increase our differentiation and have different activities at the courts for different skills ranges. It will also help us keep the numbers down on each team, which in turn, gets the students more time on task. They will have more opportunities to practice the skills. We use the standards for various units, so it will affect our classroom throughout three months of school.
