I have a small group of students who are excited to learn more about their nation's history. My students who would benefit from this project are all dedicated to learning about our nation's wars and showcasing their learning for their peers.
They are leaders.
They are researchers. They are aspiring historians. These kids inspire me to do more, offer more, and support more and I am honored to help them coordinate their fundraising to attend a trip that will help them prepare for their National History Day projects, college applications, and serve their communities by bringing their experiences back!
This project will prepare them for their APUSH (AP US History) class, by giving them real-life experience in a country that is rich in history and directly shaped the U.S. involvement in the World Wars.
Additionally, this project has allowed the students to learn about planning, coordinating and raising funds to allow them to meet their travel and educational goals.
My Project
My students will understand the implications WWII had in the European Theater. We will be visiting France to honor Allied Forces for their contributions to the victory pushing Nazi Germany out of occupied France.
My students are most excited to learn this lesson in history, valiance and self-sacrifice by standing in the place where their great-grandfathers fought and fell to literally save the world.
While we are in France, students will have the privilege to talk with veterans and their families at the "Pre-Day D-Day" festivities to hear first hand how D-Day shaped many of their lives forever. I can not wait for my students to come away from this trip with a better understanding of how our veterans answered our nation's call.
