Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a variety of situations and bring with them diverse background knowledge. One thing they all have in common is a will to learn. The best way to take advantage of this will is through hands-on activities in the classroom.
My students overcome a lot just to get to school.
The ability to come to school with basic needs met is not always the case.
Our Title I school is the most diverse in our district with over 80 percent of students receiving free or reduced-priced lunch. Often times, school is the only safe and stable part of their day. By being creative and imaginative, students get to be a part of the learning that they may not have an opportunity to do at home. While they come to school to learn, they thrive when they are given the opportunity to utilize a variety of resources to make learning real and fun. This is what keeps them coming back and keeps them hooked into learning the rigorous academic standards.
My Project
As a classroom teacher, I am happy to provide some of the necessary supplies for my students and classroom. The joy on the students' faces when they enter the classroom for the first time to see their desk stocked and ready for learning is priceless.
Supplies in school are vital for academic success.
Students will use the glue sticks, scissors, and paper to create projects that will deepen their understanding of the concepts being taught. In the lower elementary, pictures are a common way to convey their understanding. Parent communication is also key to creating a safe and secure environment. The colored paper will be used to send home notes that are easily spotted in the homework folders.
