This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are in a self-contained special education classroom in an urban school. Their families have limited resources so students come to school with very few supplies. And by this time of the school year most of those are gone.
The students come to school eager to work and to see their friends.
Some of the students are even learning how to write their names in cursive. In spite of the disabilities such as Autism, Downs, Cerebral palsy, intellectual disability; they want to do good work and have something to show their families.
My Project
My special education students are some of the hardest working individuals you will ever meet. These supplies are needed for my students to work up to their potential. They need pencils, crayons, and markers to practice writing. The binders will be used for their written compositions. The tissues and sanitizer are needed to bring us through the winter.
This is a life skills class with students of varying disabilities with the aim to prepare them for jobs or training programs.
With your help these students will be more successful and encouraged to continue working on pre-requisite skills to grade-level skills.
