As the school librarian, I have the opportunity to engage with all of our school's students. Within the library's walls, we share various novels, picture books and nonfiction works. Books have the ability to be both reflective of students' lives and to open the door to new concepts or experiences.
Our students are hardworking, curious and engaged learners that revel in the joy of finding a new book!
The majority of our students rely on reduced/free lunch (61%) and do not have the resources available at home to purchase new books. Additionally, most students do not have a card to the local library. I strive to keep our library stocked with relevant, informative and interesting options for our students to enjoy.
Currently, our students are very interested in nonfiction. Unfortunately, our collection is very dated (most books were published prior to 2000 and many date as far back as the 1960s-1980s). I would love to provide our students with new nonfiction options in order to foster their growing curiosity!
The nonfiction offerings in our school's library are incredibly dated, worn and not always an appropriate reading level. My students are requesting new books but our budget is minimal! I am thrilled that they want to delve into nonfiction and would love to support their drive by offering new nonfiction on topics that interest them!
If given the opportunity to provide these books, I know that they will fly off our library's shelves!
My students will especially enjoy the National Geographic animal books! They love learning about different animals and their habitats. The books will also be a fantastic resource for classroom teachers! Thank you for your time and consideration!
