My students need different types of dice (each type have a variety of uses), as well as Play-Doh, to complete interactive, engaging activities in math.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a Title I school in South Carolina where our motto is that "Every Student Counts, and Every Moment Matters!" My students come from very diverse backgrounds and all receive 100% free breakfasts and lunches at school. Many come from homes where English is not spoken. Some family members come from countries where they were unable to receive an education.
My students come to school and work very hard each day.
We work to ensure our learning is engaging, effective, and FUN! I also recognize that, as a teacher, my job is to provide more than just academic knowledge to students. I need to teach the WHOLE student and make sure all of their needs are met daily!
My Project
I have heard many adults reference math using words like "UH" and "Geez, I hated math!" Obviously, these adults weren't given positive, interactive, and FUN ways to learn math!
In our classroom, we LOVE learning about MATH through a variety of activities (partner work, games, whole-class sessions, math stations, etc!) I have been to several workshops lately learning about many new techniques and games that will help spark a true LOVE for math inside of each of my students.
Teaching these new techniques and games require me to have additional resources, though. This project will provide us with all of the materials we need!
We begin the year practicing our math fact fluency within 20. We then graduate to learning to express, add, and subtract 2-digit and 3-digit numbers through 999. The practice work and games that are used to teach these skills require the use of different types of dice. A regular die only shows the numbers 1-6, so this limits the numbers students are able to generate. Having different types of dice will help us broaden our understanding of a fuller range of numbers. The Play-Doh is used to build and alter different 2-D and 3-D shapes we are learning about. It is also used to create arrays, which is the first step to discovering the concept of multiplication.
Did you LOVE math? Please donate so that my students can have that same passion! Did you "hate" math? Please donate so that my students can have an improved outlook on this thrilling subject!
