We are a Title I school in the heart of Chinatown, Los Angeles. It has a diverse group of students from many backgrounds including Chinese, Laotian, Jamaican, African American, Central American, Mexican, and Caucasian. The teachers here are incredible, providing a rigorous and interesting academic environment. The students are treated with great respect, and our school is looked on as a model with impressive scores and great parent support.
My goal is to have a dedicated laptop fo my distance learning teaching.
At the moment, I am using my own Apple Computer to create lessons and have meetings with my students, parents and administrators. The options from school are old and the operating systems are not updated.
The application I use, SkiesLearn works much better on Macs. The computer I have now is ten years old. In my career I have always purchased my computer and it would be great to have help during this time to have new computer thats only purpose would be for distance learning.
My Project
How many have you have been there? You have set up your computer for a presentation and suddenly the machine is overwhelmed. I am a huge advocate of technology in the classroom. unfortunately the district computers are older and out date.
Help me start the year by replacing an old computer with one dedicated specifically to Distance Learning technology.
This year with I want to provide students with the most up to date apps for learning. I can't do that presently as the school computers are inadequate. One of the big projects I want to do involves virtual field trips. With a new computer students won't have to wait while my computer lags behind with downloads. Students submitting to work to me through SkiesLearn will be able to get immediate feedback as the operating system will be up to date. I will be able to create intriguing lessons for students using software that overwhelms my current computer. I will be able to share apps like Rocket and Match Up Math to keep students energized through the day.
