Needed: Sensory Integration Therapy

My students need a weighted compression vest, air seat cushion disc, and full body sock.

Please take the opportunity to enhance the lives of students with sensory integration disorders. I teach fourteen 7th through 12th grade students in a Special Education Life Skills Class. My school district serves predominantly low income families and is located in a rural community.

Sensory integration therapy assists my students in being able to show their abilities rather than their disability. I have several new students with autistic spectrum disorder who need sensory integration therapy on a daily basis. One of the elementary schools has a sensory integration room that my students travel to once a week. We have encountered problems with transportation, weather, missing valuable time in the classroom, etc. They desperately need this therapy daily. If we had materials in our classroom, therapy could be administered as needed.

Materials that would greatly benefit my students would be the Body Sox, a weighted compression vest and a seat cushion. The Body Sox is a see-thru Lycra/spandex "body sock" that can provide a calming sensory escape through deep pressure input. The weighted compression vest is made to calm and provide steady proprioceptive input, as the combined pressure and weight functions as a reassuring deep hug. The air seat cushion assists the students who are unable to sit still. If we have these three items available in the classroom it would enhance each child's learning opportunity by providing the needed therapy at the very moment it arises.

I believe this equipment will make a huge difference in the lives of my students. If you choose to donate, you will help ensure that my students get the opportunity to reach their full potential.
