I am an English and Dance teacher in my 4th year at a Charter High School. The community and students are culturally and financially diverse. Many of the students that attend come from surrounding areas outside of the immediate community. The high school is designated low-income because of its socio-economic diversity. For many of my students, technology is minimal within the home. Many students have very limited access to a computer or a printer at home. Despite this obstacle, my students and I make every effort to overcome these challenges and continue to use technology as much as possible in our classroom.
My students are constantly using the computers in our classroom for Internet access and writing essays. One of the biggest problems that comes with this high technology use is that the computers are unreliable and slow. There is always a computer that is either not allowing students to log on or not allowing them to print. As a result, I find myself allowing my students to use my personal laptop in order to meet my students' needs.
A HP ProBook in my classroom would significantly resolve the technology constraints. With this laptop, my students will be able to type their essays, access the Internet, and use the laptop for presentations.
A second benefit is that I am a traveling teacher; I teach in three different classrooms. I will be able to carry the HP ProBook with me to each classroom so that all of my students will benefit from this new technology.
Ideally, the Hewlett Packard ProBook will ensure that my students will have more success in the classroom as they prepare for college. As a charter school, our charter mission is built upon the notion that we, as teachers, will prepare each and every one of our students for college. This ProBook will enable my students to have more access to technology.
