My students attend a charter school in Wilmington, Delaware. Our school is located less than five miles outside of the city. We have a diverse population, including ELL and low-income students. Our students are invited to the school on a first come, first served basis. The focus of our charter is the Greek language, in addition to ELA, math, science, and social studies; my students are exposed to Greek Language and math class on a daily basis.
My students come in each day eager to learn!
They are an active group of first graders who need to be engaged in a variety of ways. My goal is to provide them with multiple learning opportunities.
My Project
I want my students to have ownership in our classroom, and the opportunity to make choices in their learning on a daily basis. Transforming our classroom to have multiple seating and workplace options will give students the opportunity to choose where they work each day.
Choice leads to ownership!
Teaching students in the 21st century means preparing students for jobs that have not yet been created- students taking ownership in their learning is key to their future success. Flexible seating, including wobble chairs, floor seats, and balance ball seats is a huge step in giving students the opportunity to choose a workspace that best fits their needs throughout the course of their school day.
