Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students attend an elementary school in Kensington. These children live in a rough, crime-ridden neighborhood. One hundred percent of the students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch every day. Despite all of this, they come to school every day still eager to learn. Many of our parents struggle to purchase the school supplies their children need for school. I wish to make the stressful supply-buying time for families easier by having supplies in my classroom for students to be able to use daily.
My Project
My students will be able to check out books much like a real library. They will have their favorite options in my very own classroom. We would very much appreciate updated and interesting reading materials in our classroom!
Having extra reading options in my classroom will allow me to encourage and create a lifelong love of reading for my students!
Most of my students do not have access to the public library and our school library is not functional. In an effort to support my students, I've learned that I must first provide interesting and relatable texts in our own classroom! My goal is to find at least one interesting book for my students to independently read throughout each school year.
