Our school is located in a town of four thousand and five hundred in South-Central Wisconsin, with several of our students facing challenges in their lives, both in and out of school. I am a fourK teacher and I mostly work with fourK students, but being part of the school's behavioral team, I have the opportunity to work with and get to know all of the students in the school. The students are hard working kids trying to find their place in school and the community while dealing with pressures placed on them at home and school.
We have a very loving staff and most of our students can navigate the school day with success.
An extra safe space in the school to recollect themselves would help all students. This extra safe space will benefit students when their challenges are too much for them to cope with or when they are ready to learn without distractions in the classroom.
My Project
The goal is to create a Sensory Classroom for our students that truly gives our classroom a "feel" that is different from every other room in the building.
Forging the way into Sensory Classrooms for our school district, we are building from the ground up, literally.
Items such as the peel and stick decals and bubble towers will provide a sensory experience that can't be obtained in the regular classroom. The addition of the inflatable lounger, the hammock swing and sensory sock will aid in making the room a safe space for our students seeking security, comfort and predictability.
These donations are going to make it possible for our students to access an environment that will enhance their ability to have success in the regular classroom.
