My students need paint for set painting, batteries to power microphones, screws to put set pieces together, and tin sheets for a fake roofing for a show.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I'm a theatre teacher that is desperately trying to make something special occur to students who have an extremely hard home life. I have just taken over this department and am putting together shows and competition teams to try to help provide a quality product that students can be proud of.
Most of my students struggle to find money to purchase clothing to wear to school, but they have hearts full of passion and drive.
They are some of the most talented kids I have ever met and deserve to have something in their life be special and their own. The school sits in the middle of the inner city and a theatre program provides a safe home for kids that may not have that.
My Project
Students will use all of the materials to create a Spring musical for the community, friends, family, and other students to see. We are building our own set and using microphones the school already has. We need batteries to power the microphones and set pieces, paint for the walls, and tin for fake sky scrapers for the city scene.
My students do not have much.
And I'm trying to provide them with the most special experience that some of them may never see again. My students will create memories that will last the test of time.
