The students in my classroom are kind little humans. I have supported them in their social development growth, teaching them how to be kind to one another and that in our classroom we are a family. This transcends to other areas within our school building where they continue to exhibit the same qualities. They show so much growth and read all on their own after a few months of being in school.
While I teach in a general education classroom, there are students of varying abilities and levels; I want to be sure that their individual needs are being met.
They have shown that they all have different needs, for instance one student would move around in his chair for independent work time, I bought him a wobble seat so he could have the "moving sensation" without having to physically move up and down and out of his chair. The seating helped him to focus and stay on task. Noticing that change I supplied a couch in our library to give them opportunities to change up their seating options.
If you read my description then you will see, flexible seating is a must indeed. Students like to move and that's okay, can we get them seats to sway? My anecdote about the child who moved up and down and fidgeted in his chair. That was solved by an adjustment of his chair!
Their desks are flat nowhere for books or materials at all--so we need some cubbies to store it all!
It is important to have a place for personal stuff. If we don't, how will they learn to be organized, pretty rough.
If you help us we would be so glad. Sitting in flexible seating; that's pretty rad!
