Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
With Earth Day soon approaching, the environment is foremost on my students' minds. At this young age, they do not feel that they have a voice in creating a change in our community's approach to conservation, pollution, or recycling. I want them to be empowered. Disney, please help!
I teach a group of 24 incredibly curious and imaginative students.
I have 19 students that speak English as a 2nd language in an inner city, Title I school. Many of my students come from "broken" homes with a hard working parent putting in extra hours at work, leaving them with very little time to spend with their children. Because of their busy schedules and low incomes, these parents are not able to provide their child with many hands on experiences outside of their own homes. Due to limited experiences and support, these kids are struggling significantly with meeting state standards
My Project
The environmental newsletter project is a first in my school. My students have designed a plan to use an electronic "green" newsletter that will be sent to families, posted on our school website, and played, multimedia style, at our school student and parent assemblies. The iPad with Smart covers is essential in accomplishing this task. Not only will they be able to design, write and email the newsletter with the iPad, but they will be able to take pictures and record video segments on the environment in English and Spanish to weave them into the newsletter and reach every member of the community, young and old. The dock will keep our iPad fully charged and even enable us to have our message continuously playing in our school office for all visitors to see. This is an ambitious project for my 5th graders, but, it is one that they enthusiastically look forward to in order to affect change in their community.
Your donation will allow my students to study about, explore, and engage in environmental issues in ways that only science can.
Our world continues to evolve. The more we understand science, the more scientists that we have, the better our Earth can be. Disney, please help my students become future scientists by working with portable, hands-on modern technology and affect a level of change in their community. Your generous donations are greatly appreciated.
