Help me give my students African American books that show them pride and success. They need to be able to see themselves in the characters and feel a part of the book!
Our school is filled with scholars. Although our students don't have much, they do have the ability and desire to read. Most students don't have books at home; therefore they are constantly checking out all of their favorite titles. Because of this, our library books are wearing out, and are always checked out.
My goal is to continue to encourage our students to love the GIFT of READING!
I would like to provide them with new books and the current best sellers in order to obtain these goals.
My Project
Many students walk around the library and have a difficult time finding books that are interesting to them. If they are not interested in the book they chose, they will most likely never open it up. It's so important that students can see and imagine themselves in books and read about characters and situations they can relate to.
The students will be able to choose books that reflect who they are and who they aspire to be.
I have selected a variety of African American Authors that will grab the attention of the students who represent our school.
The best way to increase reading ability is to read more. With these new books, students can share experiences and see themselves in the characters. Each book was chosen with my students needs in mind.
