This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are juniors and seniors on the road to college and need more experience in reading, reciting, explaining, and discussing through intellectual rigor. They are all in a high-need community and resources are much needed to improve reading, speech and presentation skills along with test preparation for US State exams.
Our students need to perform better in the US History state exams. They need exposure to history in ways they can relate to and more importantly participate in.
These podiums will be used daily for students to perform, recite and defend their thoughts around US historical events. This will help increase their confidence in speaking in public and having their positions well researched on many historical topics. Their confidence building is essential to academic success.
You will be supporting an element to great class discussions, performances but more importantly you will be supporting young minds expressing their thoughts and research. You will help bridge the gap between low performing and high performing students in a school that is challenged constantly with students coming in at low reading and writing levels. You can help a teacher fighting for their educational rights.
