My students are unique learners who present on the autism spectrum. My class consists of non-verbal students, making learning a lot less traditional. My students learn through a multi-sensory approach and need hands-on, sensory-based activities.
"Fair isn't everybody getting the same thing, Fair is everybody getting what they need in order to be successful.“-Rick Riordan.
My students need sensory items in order to meet their learning needs. My students are kind, bright, and love to learn; however, without the proper materials, learning is more challenging than beneficial for them. I truly believe that they are capable of so much, and with the right classroom and teaching, they will succeed far beyond what was imagined!
My Project
These materials are vital to creating a space where my students are able to show what they are capable of in a non-traditional class setting. These students are hard working, motivated individuals who want to succeed.
The puzzles, building sets, storage bins, and play sand will provide hands-on learning for the students, creating activities that will truly allow them to participate and be actively engaged in their learning.
My students need tactile learning materials in order to focus and show what they know. These materials will provide steady growth in their learning, as well as new opportunities for growth and development as they progress throughout the year.
The materials that I have selected will provide students with the opportunities to enhance their number and letter recognition, as well as provide opportunities for growth and development in fine and gross motor skills. With hands-on materials, students will be able to show their thought process, allowing for continued growth and development. The listed materials will advance their thinking and learning of math in number correspondence, number recognition, and basic addition, as well as ELA with alphabet recognition and the building and reading of sight words.
