Help me give my students anti-anxiety and fidget items that will help them destress and feel more comfortable in my classroom. Also, my items include beanbag chairs and two novels to encourage relaxation through reading.
My students are often defined by strangers by the color of their skin or by their economic situation, but when people get to really know my students I hope they see what I see on a daily basis.
My students are creative and bright. They think they are ready to take on the world by themselves, but secretly appreciate the guidance and support they get from their teachers. They also appreciate opportunities that let them show their integrity.
My Project
In this project, I have asked for a variety of items because different students need different things to help them focus on being successful in class. Several items are fidget toys for those who need to always keep something in their hands. I am hoping these toys will help me get their hands off their phones and their minds into participating in class. Also, there are textured strips that I plan to put on the student desks to help them relieve anxiety. There are bouncing bands for chairs to help those that need to move their feet. Lastly, I have asked for bean bags and a couple novels for those who get done early with work and need to refresh with some light reading and comfortable furniture.
The level of anxiety and stress about classwork is higher than in past years with students; additionally, students are having to get used to being in the same room with real people again.
I hope that these solutions will help students to relax, so they can communicate their needs and we can get them back on track to a successful high school experience.
