Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 9th grade environmental biology students are part of our Global Scholars Program. Our unifying theme is the UN Sustainable Development Goals. They are so enthusiastic when they can really take on a project!
Students are a diverse bunch in terms of backgrounds, achievement levels, and experiences.
Cell energy is really confusing for students, and having some good hands on modeling materials will really help us! In addition, we had a lab chair break and we really need a new one!
My Project
Students can be really hard on classroom equipment and we need a lab stool desperately! We use the markers to draw models on the table tops. Using the markers on table tops not only saves paper, but the novelty inspires students to come up with great models and diagrams.
I think that if you give students a classroom that looks smart, professional, and interesting they are more inclined to put forth a professional level of effort.
The physical environment does make a difference in student behaviour and achievement. Teaching must be one of the only professions where one is expected to bring their own furniture!
