This group of high school students is truly amazing--smart and talented! They are destined for greatness in all areas--science, math, history, language, and fine arts/physical education. Being from a rural area that's generally overlooked and tucked away between Atlanta and Athens hasn't deterred these show-stoppers one bit. They have an inner motivation that is rarely seen in high school students today.
When Troupe 7663 attended the Georgia Thespian Conference in February, one of their scenes scored a superior rating.
This was such an honor and achievement considering that over 300 scenes performed and less than 50 of them received a superior rating. Of the scenes that received a superior, only 20 were asked to perform at the closing showcase for the conference, and this Troupe was one of them.
My Project
Because of their outstanding achievement, they qualified to perform at International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska in June. This would be a once in a school career opportunity for these dedicated students. Our troupe sees this as a challenge and has high hopes that their dream can become a reality due in part to the generosity and graciousness of kind people willing to donate. Students will improve self-concept, confidence, and performance along with learning team-work and sportsmanship as well as camaraderie with other peers by participating in rigorous, engaging acting workshops to hone their skills as theater artists. These areas of self-discovery are important for all areas of growth.
This festival will serve as a springboard to becoming more knowledgeable in the performing arts.
The festival would provide a week long immersion in the theater arts specially for high-achieving drama students.
Setting the standard for participatory educational theater experiences, the festival broadens horizons, enriches learning, and celebrates the creativity of theater students and educators.
