My Students

Our Philadelphia students are an outgoing, inquisitive, funny, and proud group of students. They care about their communities, are not afraid to express their opinions or to ask important questions, and advocate for what they need on a daily basis.

With a majority of students coming from an low-income households, my students overcome obstacles every single day.

Their tenacity and generosity of spirit never cease to amaze me.

This past year, the odds have been stacked against them. However they persevered by showing up to class everyday, trying their best, and still holding on to their wicked sense of humor. Our students support each other by attending music performances and talent shows but also by forging close relationships with each other each and every day.

My Project

With Covid-19 caes surging, the rest of this year seems uneasy and undefined. In order to maintain some consistency as a class, I am planning on using Nearpod to make the transition from in-person to virtual learning as seemless as possible, regardless of when that happens for each of us.

Nearpod will allow students to engage in class when they are present, but also engage at home if they are quarantined or if our school goes fully virtual.

I used Nearpod for a full year last year, and had amazing success with engagement from students. Nearpod will allow students to catch up at their own pace, without missing any of the content. It will also allow students to continue to earn participation grades and scores if they are home.
