About My Students

My students are limited in their exposure to the greater world due to their rural location and limited opportunities to resources outside of their immediate learning area. Their exposure to diverse populations and innovative teaching strategies are limited. Providing interactive technology is essential in keeping them engaged and competitive in their ever advancing world. My students have expressed interest in Nearpod because of many of it's features.

Nearpod enables students to have immediate interaction with the teacher and constant communication with the facilitator and with others in the classroom. The program also develops lessons around their specific areas of growth. Additional elements of instruction that Nearpod provides are interactive field trips and (most importantly) lessons on empathy through its Life Skills lesson plans. A mission within our classroom is the goal of teaching to the mind, body, and spirit. My students thrive on being taught the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally in their daily lives. They strive to contribute to their communities! Nearpod will help to meet the needs in our classroom to inspire growth as individual learners and learners within a greater community of passion, compassion, and intellect.

Access to Nearpod will provide our rural students with learning opportunities that will open them to a greater world. Lessons developed through this program will encourage students to exercise their voice as they grow into adulthood, developing social/emotional strengths. Specific lessons of diversity, bullying, empathy, individuality, and self-concept are elements of social/emotional lessons provided through Nearpod.

In Their Own Words

We are attempting to accomplish individualizing the learning process while incorporating lessons of social/emotional learning and improving communication with each other. Many of these lessons are incorporated into the language arts lessons we will be utilizing through the Nearpod program. Our effort is to expose our students to a world outside of their typical classroom setting by engaging their curiosity through innovative opportunities.

Our students are excited about being an innovative group of students to use this software within our district. By building their confidence in implementing a new software program, they will build leadership skills that will encourage them to be life-long investigators for new technology. As the initial group of students who will utilize the program school-wide, students will develop leadership skills that will guide others through new opportunities.

Working with the Nearpod program will solve a problem of individual and social isolationism that we have in our classroom. In addition to be limited in diversity, our school is also a high-poverty school. Opportunities to interact with others, field trips, and hands-on resources are all limited in our community. The ability to bring these resources into our classroom will provide experiences our students might not be otherwise exposed to. Such a program will also build the seeds of confidence for our students to venture outside of their community as young adults and community members once they have been exposed to the amazing opportunities that exist outside of their own daily community. Hopefully, the program will encourage students to explore the worlds around them and possibly bring their knowledge back and build their community through education and opportunities of growth.
