My Students
I have the best job in the world and it is because of my students. Working at one of the most diverse schools in Northern New England, my students enter the classroom with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. My classroom often has scholars speaking in multiple languages, 29% of our students are English Language Learners with 60 different languages spoken in our district, with students coming from homes of a multitude of different cultures.
Our classrooms become dynamic learning environments.
Not only does each class have about 30 scholars, but the space that I share with them is used for adult education and 3 clubs, Seeds of Peace, Model UN, and school senate.
My Project
Nearpod allows me to embed questions into presentations to check for student understanding live. I've used the free version to teach figurative language and theme, but it is limited. It also helps review content and skills taught and helps me determine different ways of teaching material based on students' responses.
Additionally, Nearpod has pre-built lessons such as comma usage, that I can edit for my students to increase engagement and learning.
It has built-in tools that show student engagement, too, which is especially important when teaching high school English remotely. I can also use the program for remediation by adding extra lessons during support time for struggling students.
