My Students

Students who make up our school come from challenging backgrounds - socioeconomically and otherwise. Despite these challenges in their lives, most of our students set high goals for themselves and work hard to achieve those goals. Many times they overcome deficits to find this success.

My students love to challenge themselves, are hard workers, and love to learn through technology.

I teach 9th and 7th grade. With our school's focus on literacy and mastery learning, I want to help support every student in the classroom by having technology tools available. I also want to provide high-interest, contemporary activities through technology.

My Project

Every year, we start 7th grade off with a coming of age novel "The Schwa was Here" by Neal Shusterman. "The Schwa" is extremely popular with all students; I've never heard a student complain that we're reading "The Schwa".

Receiving the opportunity to hear from and workshop with Shusterman would be an amazing experience for all the students at our school.

Not only do students love improving their reading skills with "The Schwa", but they seek out other Shusterman books that they find they enjoy. This helps foster a love of reading and a wider world view. Hearing from him would inspire many readers.
