Our sweet southern town is home to a small section of a rural school district with 4400 students in total. The town is committed to the education of their children and very involved in the school community. The majority of students in our school district come from low-income households; the average income in our district is $19,000 a year.
Our students come to school with a wide array of backgrounds and experiences, and they are loving and eager to learn.
As we all are aware, technology has become the trend, the most common way of communicating. It also serves as a bridge allowing students to overcome learning deficits. This year, we’ve embraced technology and encouraged the use of it in our classrooms.
All of our students will be taking their state and local assessments on a computer or comparable technology. This will be a challenge for many of our students because we have used pencil and paper for instruction and testing for many years.
In order for the assessment to best show the student’s academic ability we, as the teachers, need to limit the likelihood of errors that would be caused by the difficulty associated with the use of a track pad.
We have the technology, and we use it regularly. However, we find that errors arise with clicking and scrolling. Therefore, we are asking for your help to purchase a wired mouse for each of the portable devices our students will use.
We use our technology weekly, to enhance the student’s exposure to the devices. Our new favorite programs are Readworks and Edmodo. Students are able to complete assignments issued electronically, tests, and quizzes as well as respond to written response tasks on a platform that looks similar to our state and local tests.
We are asking for your help as we make embracing technology for our students a little easier one CLICK at time!
