My students love to learn but many of them do not have the tools needed to learn from home. Giving them simple supplies to create meaningful projects or interesting novels to help them escape life's challenges would really motivate them to stay focused on learning as well as offer an opportunity to let their imagination soar.
My fifth graders come from all different backgrounds, but they all share the same love of learning new skills and concepts that are currently challenged with remote teaching.
With the school closures, I was not allowed back into my classroom to get anything. I was scrambling to get work together as well as books for my students to read. It didn't even enter my mind how many learning tasks we would need to accomplish. Stretching learning to the end of the school year is challenging, but my students are putting their best foot forward. Having limited access to technology increases the need for hands-ons activities that will drive home instruction.
In class my students struggled using laptop computers without a computer mice to complete assignments. By providing each student with a computer mouse, they will be able to have success remotely. There were two problems that arose: the laptops internal mouse were at times difficult to use or too sensitive to use.
A computer mice at home will help my struggling learners navigate their Chromebooks by removing a barrier for learning caused by the internal mice being too sensitive or skipping screens at times.
By getting individual plug-in mice, this should resolve that problem. Students can focus on lessons and not controlling the computer mouse. To create responsibility for individual students, each student will get a labelled mouse. This will create accountability so students will be encouraged to take care of the equipment while learning at home. With your help, my students will be able to utilize computer skills they need beyond the classroom while learning at home.
