This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
These wonderful students are from an urban setting. Breakfast and lunch are provided to all students free of charge. Most of these amazing students are from low income/high poverty areas, with many coming from single parent homes.
These students don't experience many luxuries in their lives that some may take for granted.
From the moment they walk into the classroom they're focused, ready to work and have fun.
Many students this age go away for vacations or weekends. Nature's Classroom provides them with a trip they might not have otherwise. Their desire to learn is incredible, as is their work ethic.
My Project
Each year our 5th graders are lucky enough to experience a two night, three day trip to Nature's Classroom.
As an low income, high poverty school, many of these students do not have the luxury of traveling and being in new environments.
This location is opposite from the cities most of them live in.
Having this trip is an eye opening experience for these amazing students, who return with awesome stories and new interests that they can continue to pursue. Each year is a blast!
