Children at our school are part of a very special community. The school is smaller than others in our area, so it is easy to get to know everyone and feel as though you are part of a family. Our students come from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. Some families are self-sufficient, while others benefit from a free/reduced lunch and our backpack food program.
We are dedicated to providing a supportive environment where all children have the opportunity to feel valued and successful.
Teachers pride themselves on fostering positive relationships with their students. The entire staff looks for everyday examples of students making good choices and reward positive behavior. Students are encouraged to be kind to each other and to understand that kindness begins within each one of them.
Visitors to our school can immediately feel the “we’re all in this together” spirit. We are a group of 600 friends, trying to make our world a better place.
My Project
Our students come from diverse backgrounds in which we celebrate their diversity and uniqueness! As a part of the "Embracing Our Differences" call to artists, our students will be creating natural self-portraits which focus on their facial features and uniqueness. Students will use cardboard pieces and scraps, raffia, and natural materials to "build" their portraits.
After the initial "building" portion of the project, students will use bright paints to make their portraits "come to life"- with colors and patterns reflective of their personalities.
Seeing my student's individual styles shine through this art project is going to be very exciting! Our goal is to show students that even though we are all building the same underneath, our personalities and soul are what makes each of us unique and special!
Our school community has gone through a lot of changes in the past year and doing projects which allow students to reflect upon themselves, their behavior, and their place in this world are of the utmost importance!
