My students are amazing human beings! They are full of life and have endless potential to do so many wonderful things. My school is a Title I school in a poverty-stricken community. Our school receives a grant that allows every child to have free breakfast and lunch served at school due to food insecurities at home. Many of our parents struggle to help meet the needs of school supplies and the needs of their children. Regardless of these circumstances, my students overcome! They are learning how to face challenges and grow stronger academically, socially and emotionally preparing them for the next level of life.
I believe that these students deserve every opportunity this world has to offer and I am determined to help them get it.
These students can change the world with their brilliant minds and can climb out of the cycle of poverty through the gift of education. They will learn that the world is theirs for the taking with hard work, dedication, and knowledge.
My Project
Books are natural and mathematical! They give readers an opportunity to see the natural landscapes of earth they might never have the opportunity to do on their own! From flying unicorns to visiting an Italian country, books can take you anywhere! Books can also teach math in ways that they see in their daily lives.
Students must see the world and use math in their daily lives!
That's why I created this fifth project. As a kid I was fortunate to take a summer vacation every so often. From neighboring the surrounding the states to hiking in the mountains. As a teacher, I know not every family can give their experiences to their kids. There's so many places to be discovered and even I too want to see.
"Mr. Potrzeba, we're never going to use this in our own lives!" When I taught math, I used to hear that quote often and decided to do something about it. One night I filmed in random a business to show them how the math we were using in class applied in real life. Students craved these weekly videos and really began paying attention. Now that I'm a reading teacher, I still use math in class, but don't get the pleasure of filming math videos.
That's why having these books show just how amazing the Earth and math is, this is very important to me no matter what subject I teach.
