My students are creative, compassionate and love to ask questions. I teach middle school English to 115 amazing students in an Indian reservation. Though they are avid learners. They live in communities where they do not have the resources to come prepared to class. We teach them just where they are because their spirits and wonderful personalities are a tribute to their determination and the wisdom of their amazing communities.
Creative, curious students like my students, who consistently persevere and try their best in the face of many hardships, are the reason I got into teaching.
My students have all gone through different journeys and I use a variety of different teaching methods and strategies to serve them. I strive to combine Lakota culture with western academics to support my students' emotional and academic well-being. It is an absolute honor to teach my students and I can't wait to see what they will achieve this year and beyond!
My Project
My students are compassionate, engaged, curious readers. Though my students are avid learners our community and school does not have the resources to keep up with their learning needs.
My creative, inquisitive readers in the Reservation deserve to read books that honor their stories and are written by Native American voices.
My students are constantly persevering through adversity deserve to read books with stories they can relate to. In my classroom we honor their journeys and their culture through the classroom practices and the books we read. With these stories, my students will be able to make lasting connections creating lifelong readers!
