Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students represent diverse backgrounds, learning needs, and strengths. Despite being in a Title I/low-income school, my students strive to show their leadership as active participants in their own learning. These amazing students have demonstrated a willingness to work hard in order to achieve success in all academic and social domains. We have an amazing community of families that reinforce the importance of education and character in order to find future success.
"Together we will learn and work together to succeed."
My Project
Students are in the midst of a Native American study in our English Language Arts curriculum. They are learning about the culture and traditions among various groups of Native Americans including lifestyle, rituals, and visual arts. The students in our class have learned weaving and beading techniques using plastic beads and yarn. Although they have enjoyed the experience, I would like them to enhance the experience and make the unit truly memorable.
It is my goal to be able to offer my students the opportunity to use authentic beading materials including stone beads, claps, and traditional hands on beading tools.
With your donation, each student in my class will be able to make an authentic wampum using turquoise and other natural stone beads on a beading loom with embroidery floss. They will then be able to use the beads in a "market" in order to trade for other goods in a trading post simulation. Students are eager to extend their beading skills, and with your help I will be able to make this a reality! Thank you for supporting our artistic endeavors!
