Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at our elementary school truly take on the meaning of our school mascot: heroes. They are heroes because they worked hard and accomplished so much despite the pandemic! They logged on, learned, and did everything they were supposed to do despite technical issues, minimal supplies, and not having their teachers in the same room! Now, we're returning stronger and smarter than ever! We did not let any obstacle or any pandemic get in our way!
Our heroes have returned to school stronger and smarter than ever, ready to work, learn, and have fun!
Heroes are not only smart, but they are respectful and caring people! Heroes are also problem solvers, lifelong learners, and give meaning to the word heroes.
My Project
I remember being in 3rd grade and hearing my teacher mention research reports! Ugh! No thanks! I don't want that response from my students though! These National Geographic books are high interest books & topics! We will begin with science: we will learn about the life cycle of a butterfly, the causes of volcanoes, the differences between cats & dogs, and the lives of penguins! After learning about these topics, we will take it one step further and begin our writing research. We will use these books as research for writing sequencing (butterflies, problem & solution (volcanoes), compare & contrast (cats vs. dogs), and description (penguins). These books will not only serve as great non-fiction reading, but they will also serve as science topics & writing projects!
My students need high interest, non-fiction, science led books!
After MY students hear the words, "Research Reports", they will cheer!
