Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students that walk into my classroom come from all walks of life. There are days they come in happy and other days when they come in sad. No matter what they walk through the door with, my students are able to dance and forget about everything for 45 minutes of their day. I do my best to provide them with a positive learning experience every single day.
I love getting to see my students get excited about achieving a skill they've been working on or smile because they love dancing.
For some, dance is why they come to school. Their excitement and enthusiasm is what drives me as a teacher.
Throughout the year, I see my students develop self-discipline, self-confidence, personal skills, dance skills, and an appreciation for the arts. I wish you could all see the progress my students make in just one year!
My Project
This year I want to bring in a new element to my dance classes and that element is yoga. Yoga is such a powerful addition to a dancer's education as well as an individual's life. It helps tone, strengthen, and lengthen muscles while exercising mindfulness at the same time. As a dancer, it is extremely important to be mindful of your body and understand when something feels wrong. The practice of yoga will go hand in hand with proper technique and alignment aiding in the prevention of injuries in and out of the classroom.
Having yoga mats for each dancer will provide a safe place to practice yoga.
They will provide cushion and help dancers from slipping and sliding while flowing through postures.
There are numerous benefits to practicing yoga. As mentioned, yoga will increase muscle tone, strength, and flexibility as well as improve respiration, energy, and vitality. The practice of yoga goes hand in hand with cardiovascular and circulatory health. Overall, my dancers will benefit greatly by implementing yoga into their dance classes throughout the year.
