Ms. Harris from Baltimore MD is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students a fighting chance in the ever changing technological advancements of the 21st century. My goal is to have 40 working laptops for my classroom starting with these 10 hp Chromebooks.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are charismatic, energetic, thoughtful, and full of questions. They become excited with hands-on, active, and engaging projects that allow them to use their critical thinking skills. They are courageous, motivated, persistent, and have persevering mindsets. They are not afraid to take chances in order to grow both academically and personally. They continually inspire me to be one of their best resources. Being located in Baltimore City, employment and opportunity are scarce and competitive. My students are often faced with the lack of supplies and resources that would help make them stronger math learners.
From the time my students walk in the door, it is my job to help them forget about their disadvantages and remember their purpose. It’s my job to keep them focused on their potential and growth.
They have an appetite for knowledge and progression and we must harvest that. When these two basic needs are not provided, disbelief in the system of academia begins a cycle of harbored doubts about the wisdom of their journey. Please help me keep that inner light ignited. Show them that
This project for technology will be one of many. My students are growing extremely frustrated and discouraged with the lack of resources in the school building that the district is requiring that we have access to for data.
One area that my students struggle with is their math stamina on the computer and when they see computers their immediate response is "are we testing again".
I want to change that narrative. Although all of their assessments, in class as well as district wide, must be completed on computers, my students need much practice and exposure to technology. More practice will help boost their confidence which will in turn boost their performance and test scores. Additionally having access to technology will help me help the mathematics come alive for them. Students will be able to manipulate graphs of functions based on real world scenarios at the tip of their fingers.
